UK Immigration Authorities Grants Extra Visas for UCL International Scholars
Several hundred overseas learners will successfully take up their guaranteed study spots subsequent to talks between the UK immigration department and University College London concluded with the authorities granting additional entry permits.
Immigration Quota Difficulties
Hundreds of learners, many from East Asia, were stuck in a difficult situation after UCL underestimated the interest for positions this academic year and went over its allowance of study acceptance confirmation electronic documents permitted by the immigration authorities.
Institution Apology and Financial Support
the institution issued an apology to those concerned, advising them it was "truly apologetic for the disturbance and uncertainty", and providing to cover ÂŁ1,000 expenses for submissions made through British visa authorities' "super priority service".
We're happy to be able to assure our impacted overseas students that they can now start their courses at University College London.
Extraordinary Demand
The institution said "an extraordinary surge in applications" was responsible for the excessive admissions, and had initially advised students with confirmed positions that they should postpone until the subsequent session, causing many to express concern they encountered economic disadvantages after advance payment for flights and housing.
Successful Resolution
Following discussions between University College London and the UK visa officials at the conclusion of last Friday, students were advised that they would be granted visas in the end.
A spokesperson for University College London said: "We sincerely express regret to all those who have been concerned by the ongoing doubt and we are exceptionally appreciative for their patience. Our teams are now acting promptly to reach out to scholars individually with updates and support.
Learner Responses
A number of students said they had received digital communications from UCL within the last two days saying their CAS documents would be issued, a essential necessity to be issued a study permit. Some mentioned they had yet to been given official notice.
An applicant expressed: "I'm thrilled to be able to pursue education in the Britain. We were told conflicting messages since recent weeks, it was extremely difficult. I was already obligated to covering costs for housing in the capital, with no refund offered, so I am extremely grateful."
National Effect
Roughly 200 applicants from the Chinese mainland were impacted, with several already in the United Kingdom at the conclusion of last month for the commencement of the university term. Those on graduate studies were informed they had to be in attendance by 10 October or give up their spot.
We deeply appreciate for your patience with this process and we are extremely sorry for the disruption and uncertainty which this will have caused you.
