The Two Sergeants Instants Before the Assailant Was Tasered

A senior officer that leaped to the help of a partner that was assaulted by a knifeman received the Monarch's Honor for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a weapon to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist after a road collision in the area in mid-2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.

"Officer knifed," the officer could be heard saying over his radio.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera footage made public by the force depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood up, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade pointed forward.

He ran into the policeman who lost balance and went down to the ground, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the floor despite being repeatedly struck with the blade.

Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a open target, concluding the fight to an finish.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Please provide assistance on my throat now, I got knifed in the neck."

Sergeant Ansell suffered multiple deep cuts to his throat and more cuts to his limbs and torso, while Sergeant Foster received cut injuries.

The department reported Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stem his colleague's hemorrhaging prior to emergency responders came.

The new recognition arrives after the law enforcement team received organizational Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the area officer association in spring 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Courage Honor in July 2024.

"The responses of all three officers eventually saved themselves and meant no members of the public experienced any wounds."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, per the department.
