Record Highs for Gold & Silver Amid Anticipated Rate Cuts and Geopolitical Strain

Gold and silver have climbed to record highs this day, with investors turning to protective investments as anticipation builds for further interest rate cuts and geopolitical risks rise.

Record-Shattering Rally

The spot gold has broken through the $4,400 barrier for the initial occasion, now sitting at $4,417.53 per ounce after a significant rise. At the same time, the price of silver have jumped by 3% to a historic peak of $69.14 per ounce.

"The gains were fueled by last week’s weaker-than-forecast US inflation and labor figures, which bolstered predictions for two 25bp Fed rate cuts in 2026," commented a financial strategist.

Twin Drivers

Analysts attribute the rally to two key drivers:

  • Monetary Policy: Increasing speculation of more accommodative policy from the US Federal Reserve make assets that don't pay interest a better store of value.
  • International Conflict: Escalating measures regarding Venezuela have spurred demand into protective investments.

The rally follows gold achieving its peak closing price on record in the previous period.

Broader Economic Context

In parallel developments, growth figures from the Britain painted a picture of a decelerating growth.

  • Growth estimates for the April-June period of 2025 were adjusted downward from 0.3% to 0.2%.
  • Third-quarter growth was confirmed at just 0.1%.
  • The rate of household savings dropped to 9.5%, lower than 10.2% in the prior three months.

"In the future, the risk of a contraction is becoming a concern," stated a financial analyst. "The UK is slowing significantly."

Price Forecasts

Despite the current rally, forecasts differ on the next move for these assets.

A research group predicted that fundamentals would come back into focus, dragging values lower to around $3,500 per ounce for gold by the close of next year.

On the other hand, gold is headed for its biggest gain since 1979, with a 68% gain since January.

The Agenda Ahead

  • British economic data for the third quarter.
  • Chicago Fed index of economic performance.
